SCH hosts engaging and enriching community events for all ages! From long-standing, beloved events like the Halloween Spooktacular, to new events like the Lantern Walk and Nutcracker Tea Parties, Sellwood Community House is always looking for ways to engage, entertain, and bring people together.

How It Works:

  • We supply the main dish, salad, and drinks.

  • You bring an appetizer, side, or dessert.

  • If your recipe is unique to you, share it for a chance to be featured in our cookbook, set to be published at the end of the year.

  • Please finalize your recipe one week in advance. We’ll reach out to gather the details so we can create recipe cards to share.

  • On-site childcare can be added at registration.

Portland Cantonese Play + Learn 波特蘭粵語玩同學習 

May 18, June 22, 10 am – 12pm | Sellwood Community House | Free

Connecting Cantonese families! Join once a month for language activity, storytime, crafts and open play. A fun group for parents and young children to learn, practice and speak Cantonese. All fluency levels welcome! Please contact Theola Wong at hellopcpl@gmail.com for more information.

Family Clay Play

Join Makerspace Sellwood and SCH on the first Saturday of each month for Family Clay Play!

Each month will have a simple structured project appropriate for ages 3-14. All supplies, instruction, and firing are included!  Finished projects will be ready for pick up within 3-4 weeks at Sellwood Community House.

Sellwood Riverfront Park Cleanup: Pick It Up, Portland!

Join us to help the Sellwood Riverfront get ready for summer! In partnership with Human Access Project and SOLVE, we will devote our morning to preventing microplastics and other debris from entering our waterways. This event is part of Pick It Up, Portland, a city-wide initiative focused on litter removal. We hope to see you there!

Family Estate Planning 101

Join us for an estate planning workshop led by Chad Fuss, Esq., of Affordable Estate Planning. Learn the basics of what estate planning is, why it's important, and some free steps you can take right now. Points covered will include:

Classical Up Close:

Pop-up Performance with Musicians from the Oregon Symphony

A quartet from the Oregon Symphony will be performing at Sellwood Community House on May 12, at 1:15 pm as part of the 12th annual Classical Up Close music festival! From libraries to coffee shops, churches to community centers, Classical Up Close performs for free where you live, work, and play. A Conversation about Reimagining Recreation in Portland

Do you remember long, lazy summer days? What if we told you Sellwood Community House wants to bring them back? Join us for this community conversation about recreation- the role it plays in fostering healthy, connected communities and how Sellwood Community House intends to make recreation for all ages easier and more fun this summer. 

Sam Balto, founder of Bike Bus World will share what it looks like when hundreds of kids reclaim their neighborhood streets and become agents of their own childhoods. 

Ashley Murray, executive director of Sellwood Community House will share how SCH intends to start a revolution in recreation, beginning with a summer of free recreation in Sellwood Park. 

We’ll be joined by some very special guests from around Portland. Bring your questions and ideas! This event is for adults- limited childcare available for children ages 3-9. Please RSVP so we have plenty of snacks and prizes on hand and to reserve a childcare space.

Royal Rosarian Milk Carton Boat Race

Sellwood Community House is pleased to support the 2025 Royal Rosarian Milk Carton Boat Race!

Save the date for the 2025 Royal Rosarian Milk Carton Boat Race, coming to the Westmoreland Park Casting Pond on Sunday, June 22nd!

Boat registration is open now! For more details and to register your boat, click here. Sellwood Community House is an official pick-up site for milk cartons! Come by on Monday-Friday between9-3 to pick up your supply. There are several other pick-up locations available as well: click here to find more information on milk carton pick-up.

Sellwood History Hunt 2025

Welcome to the second annual Sellwood Community House History Hunt!  

Are you fascinated by local history? Do you love solving puzzles? Does getting outside with friends and family sound like the perfect way to spend your day? If so, you are in the right place!

The Details: 

Who: YOU! This is a fun, free event for everyone in the community to enjoy, hosted by the Sellwood Community House. 

What: A Treasure Hunt! You will be searching for a custom medallion. There is no cash prize associated with this hunt, just bragging rights (and perhaps a picture on our social media). 

Where: That's for you to figure out! Medallion will be hidden somewhere in a park, on a trail, or on land open to the public somewhere in the inner southeast area (Eastmoreland, Sellwood, Westmoreland, Woodstock, northern Milwaukie).

Why: Sellwood Community House is crafting a recreational revival of free summer programming in the parks! Think crafts, classes, nature walks and more! If you are able, please consider a suggested donation of $15-$35 dollars to support free programming for kids and adults. Your financial support means the world to our local nonprofit!
