Spring Fundraiser: Neighborhood of Possibility

Saturday, May 30, with ongoing opportunities before the event and at the event itself

An event like this is a group effort! Volunteers are needed to:

  • Help solicit auction and raffle donations from Portland businesses- can be done from home!

  • Create event decorations - we meet each Friday morning!

  • Volunteer at the event! We have roles for every interest.

Last year, The Shack welcomed visitors from 54 zip codes, 15 counties and 12 states. Visitors checked out 2070 free sports equipment rentals and art kits, and enjoyed 227 programmed activities including storytimes with local authors, dance + fitness with BodyVox Dance Company, adventure play with Portland Free Play, weekly live music and much, much more.

Our goal is that The Shack becomes a permanent part of our neighborhood’s fabric, where memories are made and traditions are forged, where families are supported and where neighbors of all ages and backgrounds can find joy and build community.

Volunteer-Led Classes, Clubs & Events

Do you have a hobby or talent that you would like to teach, a guided walk or tour you would like to lead, or another proposal you would like to share with us? The Reading & Brain Games clubs are shining examples of volunteer-led clubs. Favorite past events include the popular Ghost Tours last fall and the History Happy Hour neighborhood walks last spring.

New for the summer, we are also looking for volunteers to lead storytimes, classes and walks at The Shack at Sellwood Park!

Please fill out the below forms to share your ideas!

Join a Committee

The SCH Board has a number of standing committees, including Finance, Building, and Fundraising that are always looking for new members! If you have an interest and professional experience in these or other areas, consider joining a committee! Board membership is not a prerequisite for joining a committee, just an excitement to make a difference.

If you have any questions or are interested in learning more, please reach out to our executive director, Ashley Murray, at ashley@sellwoodcommunityhouse.org.
