Reading Club

tues/thurs afternoons from 3-4:30 pm*

*Background Check Required

Read with children in our preschool and after school programs! Children love to meet with our volunteers, pick out a book, and spend some quiet time enjoying a story together.

Brain Games Club

Mondays from 3-4:30 pm*

*Background Check Required

Come and play some of your favorite board games with our after school program students! Checkers, chess, battleship and more! We will work some great logical thinking and STEM-based challenges into these fun afternoons with the students.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Sellwood Sessions at The Shack! With the growth in popularity of this event, it will be wonderful to have your help with some of the logistics involved in hosting such a big musical gathering!

These shifts will run from 5:15-8:45, with time off during the performances to enjoy the music! The main things we need help with are:

  • Interacting with our guests both before the show and at the performance break, to hand out Shack flyers, gather demographic info (Zip codes & how they heard), and get tips for the bands!

  • Setting out extra garbage bins around the perimeter of the event, and

  • Emptying extra garbage bins after the show.

Volunteer-Led Classes, Clubs & Events

Do you have a hobby or talent that you would like to teach, a guided walk or tour you would like to lead, or another proposal you would like to share with us? The Reading & Brain Games clubs are shining examples of volunteer-led clubs. Favorite past events include the popular Ghost Tours last fall and the History Happy Hour neighborhood walks last spring.

Please fill out the below forms to share your ideas!

Join a Committee

The SCH Board has a number of standing committees, including Finance, Building, and Fundraising that are always looking for new members! If you have an interest and professional experience in these or other areas, consider joining a committee! Board membership is not a prerequisite for joining a committee, just an excitement to make a difference.

If you have any questions or are interested in learning more, please reach out to our executive director, Ashley Murray, at ashley@sellwoodcommunityhouse.org.
